Are you anticipating a possible nomination for Best New Artist at the upcoming Grammy’s?

Tori Kelly: Oh my goodness! That would be a huge honor. I think any artist would see that as a huge deal, which it is. Even just to be considered makes me kind of like – floating.

Do you credit the “Thinking About You” video of you singing going viral to your now success?

Tori Kelly: For me, that video was a really big step in my career. I don’t necessarily put everything that’s happened on just that moment, but I’ve had these awesome moments in my career that have been these stepping-stones, and that’s definitely one of them. I think coming from that online world – I mean that video was literally done on an iPhone and we just posted it. We had no idea that it was going to blow up like it did. I think just being cut from that cloth has been really cool for me. I always want it to be about that, and the fans just discovering me. They deserve so much credit for what they’ve done for me.

How has your life changed since you’ve received this fame?

Tori Kelly: It’s funny because it’s been like a gradual process for me. My journey isn’t one that was like an overnight thing. I’ve been doing it for a while. I get to wake up everyday and just be so grateful I get to do what I love. I think right now, I’m really learning to take every single moment, even the little ones, and not take it for granted. That’s kind of what I’ve been trying to do. Take it one day at a time.

Did you always dream of being a famous singer, or is it something you randomly came into when you heard your own voice one day?

Tori Kelly: This is something that has definitely been my dream since I was a kid. I didn’t necessarily look at the fame part of it and be like “Oh, that’s what I want. I want to be a famous singer.” I just always loved music. I fell in love with it at a really young age. I just knew that’s what I wanted to do. Everything else that comes along with it, I’ve been okay with. I understand it’s a whole package you have to accept and adapt. The music has really been my dream, like doing shows and performing. This is all just a huge dream come true.
