Civil Interview: Peter Rosenberg Reflects On Peterpalooza’s Success & The State Of Hip-Hop
by Staff Editor
What is the highlight of this year’s Peterpalooza?
Peter Rosenberg: I think the story of this year’s Peterpalooza is A$AP Rocky and the material we can hear off of his new album. I think that’s the best work of his career.
Where do you hope to see Peterpalooza be in maybe 5 years? It keeps growing more each year.
PR: I would hope that by the time we get around to Peterpalooza IX and Peterpalooza X, I can handle the stress and pressure, as well as go to a bigger venue. Hopefully we’ll be filling 10,000 seats rather than 2,500 seats. I hope that I get to announce the date, and it will sell without me revealing an artist.
What’s the process like in picking artists?
PR: I sort of think about who I really like, who makes sense, and who is possible to get. It’s also about who represents the music that I love, and then just pursuing who’s capable of doing it. The hardest part is locking people in.
What attracted you to want to get Vic Mensa this year?
PR: I’ve been a big fan and supporter of his. He’s been a big supporter of mine. He’s had the biggest year of his career by far this year, so he seemed like a great fit.
Who do you hope to get on the Peterpalooza stage down the line?
PR: I’d love to have a Kendrick show one day. I’d love to have a Childish Gambino show one day. I’d even love to have Rakim or Slick Rick. It just depends where things go.
