You got very personal throughout the EP, which made for a more enjoyable listen. Talk about that.

Emilio Rojas: I’m okay with being vulnerable on a record, I guess. I know the universe is going to take care of me. I don’t have a problem with letting people in, so I put it out there. I think that’s something that’s missing. I think that’s one thing people value with me and my music. It wasn’t really hard. That’s just what I do.

You spoke a lot of truth on “Imagine That” with things like Mike Brown, Obama’s presidency, and having respect for women. What inspired you to make that particular track?

Emilio Rojas: I feel like there’s a decline of activism in the country right now. I think it’s focused to specifically on a racial issue. I do think that people have institutionalized racism in this country. Don’t get me wrong, I still think there is a huge problem with the way people treat people. I’m not trying to draw attention from that, but I also do think that there are other things that deserve and acquire attention. They impact the communities and impact the way we treat each other on a daily basis.

You’ve been in the game for a minute. Do you ever feel under appreciated?
Emilio Rojas: Oh, I feel like I’m in the generation of people where I haven’t been given my shot. I’m definitely under appreciated. I’m one of the best at doing what I do. I don’t know if it’s the different situations we’ve been through that hasn’t made us stand out. We’ve had a lot of moments that was almost ‘that moment’ but hasn’t quite been ‘that moment.’ But I look at all those things like it’s just par t of our journey. It’s going to make my story compelling once I get to the place where I know I deserve to be.

What are some key lessons you’ve learned in your career thus?
Emilio Rojas: Just to make sure we do things with these records and get attention given to them. I take full responsibility for that.

What are your goals for the rest of 2015?

Emilio Rojas: We’re going to be on tour. I’m going to drop an EP with my boy, Illmind . He’s a producer. He just did Joe LSD’s whole album that just dropped. I think the most necessary thing for me to do is to interact with my fans. I love interacting with the people that support me. Even the people that don’t. They still have something valuable to contribute. I just want to get out, get around, and interact with as many people as possible, but I can’t wait to get back on the road.
