Civil Interview: Papoose Talks New Album, Joining The Cast Of ‘L&HH,’ And Remy Ma Being Home

How does You Can’t Stop Destiny differ from your previous work?
You Can’t Stop Destiny is different for the simple fact that I’m in a whole different space in my life. So mentally, my mind is different, my ideas, and my whole outlook on life are different. It reflects on my project because my music reflects my life and my life experiences.
What do you hope to show the hip-hop community with this album?
That I’ve grown into a better artist and a better person, and that I’m ready for the next level.
How did you link up with Ty Dolla $ign?
My wife [Remy Ma] did a remix for DeJ Loaf’s “Try Me,” and Ty Dolla $ign is featured on it, and was at the video shoot. We met, and we just clicked. He’s a real cool, humble dude. We were just talking about how we like each other’s music, and we should work together. When I actually made the chorus for “Michael Jackson,” I shot it to him, He hit me back saying, “This shit is hot!” He just harmonized on it, and the rest is history.
How has it been to be able to work with DJ Premier?
Oh, it’s a privilege, man. I grew up looking up to him, and I wouldn’t do any of my projects without having him on it. Even when I signed my first deal for $1.5 million, and everything was in place at that time, he didn’t even want no money. He said, “I just want to work with you, man. I’m doing it for free.” He’s a genuine dude, a hip-hop legend, and just humble.
You and Remy are set to be on Love & Hip Hop. We’ve seen all kinds of names in hip-hop on there from rising artists, to seasoned veterans. How do you think it will effect your career, being that you’ve been in the game for awhile?
I think it’s going to contribute. I only think it’s going to add on. I’m excited about it. I don’t see how it could subtract at all.
