What was your relationship like with Chinx, and how did you feel when you heard of his death?

Mendeecees: We was cool. What happened was him and Vado are artists that I was previously managing. They have a tight relationship. Every time we seen each other it was mutual respect. They show love, and I show love back. So, it was very saddening to hear what happened to him. He had a wife, and a family of three kids! So it’s real heart-breaking to see his family on the news. When I put a picture up [on Instagram], his wife’s mother commented writing, “Pray for my daughter and her kids.” She just commented on my page [out of the blue]. And I just didn’t know what to say. I’m sorry to hear for their loss. I’m sorry for his family.

How do you think his death will impact hip-hop?

Mendeecees: I think it’s hurting hip-hop because you’re supposed to have unity. You’re supposed to want to build each other up. You’re supposed to be happy to see someone make it out the violence that we come from. So with people hating on you, the artists don’t want to go back to their neighborhoods and show love because of things like this happening. They think they’re being very stand-off-ish. People need them because they give the people hope. It’s a gift and a curse. The artists are smartening up now, but the people still need them.
