by Staff Editor

On April 14th, 2010, hip-hop was forever changed. A weed-loving, short haired Wiz Khalifa released his critically acclaimed and life-changing mixtape Kush & Orange Juice and five years later, to present day, that impact is immensely clear.
Wiz certainly didn’t create the idea of a “mixtape,” but he definitely revamped it’s importance to the culture. Do you realize what happened after Kush & OJ was released? Every single artist said to themselves, “we have to do this” and just about everybody did, and soon after too. Big Sean came with Finally Famous 3, Meek Mill with his Dreamchasers series, etc.
But, let’s not focus solely on what Kush & OJ did for the industry, but more so what it did for Wiz Khalifa. It led him to his major label deal with Atlantic, his multi-platinum selling single “Black & Yellow,” him landing on the 2010 XXL Freshman cover, on the Forbes list in 2011, and officially became one of the most important artists of our generation.
Now that it’s been five years since Wiz blessed us with Kush & OJ, we’ve decided to come up with 5 surefire reasons why Kush & OJ forever changed hip-hop. See what we came up with on the following pages.
