What are you the most proud of in your writing credits?

I think “There Goes My Baby” is one of my favorite songs that I wrote. “Just A Dream” for Nelly. “Hello Good Morning” for Dirty Money. I feel I’ve had a decent amount of success, so all of them were like my babies. I thought “Energy” by Keri Hilson should have been bigger, but it wasn’t a hit. I also wrote a song for Brandy called “No Such Thing As Too Late.”

Speaking of Brandy, do you want to clear up the talks of you making an album for her, but you ended up scrapping it?

An article somebody posted said that I wrote a Brandy album and I scrapped it, but that wasn’t what I said. I basically said that I did Brandy’s last project, and they scrapped it. They put it out but they never promoted it further than past the first single.

You currently have a daughter on the way. What’s the first song you would want to have her hear from you when she is age appropriate?

There’s a record on my album called “Days Go By,” and I think it’s such a beautiful song. It’s so honest and true to how it feels when you love somebody, but you don’t get to see them. I’m going to be on the road a lot, and may not get to be there a lot, so I think that song represents how it feels when you’re away from somebody that you really love.

What’s one of the craziest moments you’ve had while working with an artist in the studio?

I was working with Shakira, and she was telling us that she wanted to do a merengue record. Jim Johnson and I just said, “Um…what? We don’t do merengue!” We were frustrated, so we just told her we thought we were going to spit some dope shit, and then I got a call saying that my baby was on the way. That was when my son was born. So I was kind of saved by the bell, and left to go to the hospital. My son was delivered the next morning. My son saved me from merengue.
