LINDSEY INDIA: Platinum albums might be hard to come by, but with some of the most-anticipated albums releasing in 2015, I’m pretty sure one is bound to happen this year. Even though some projects were expected to sell that cool million, such as J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills DriveĀ and Nicki Minaj’s The Pinkprint, but to be fair, they dropped at the end of the year making it tough to go platinum in 2014.

There’s no doubt that albums will continue to be leaked early, but the artists set to drop this year could easily become platinum albums before it’s all said and done. Drake’s debut album went Gold in the first week, and he’s only increased his first week sales since with Take Care and Nothing Was The Same. Rihanna is also up in the running for going platinum, which could easily happen, as she has kept fans waiting for nearly three years now.

On top of the higher-selling artists, there is also Kendrick Lamar and Big Sean. The TDE artist is still able to sell out venues, festivals, and get millions of views when he makes a late night show appearance. Big Sean’s project is also one of the more anticipated projects, now that he’s seen huge success with his single “IDFWU” and gotten a song that features Drake and Kanye West (“Blessings”). His new album “Dark Sky Paradise” is dropping at the end of the month, and it has a ton of incredible guest features.

Then there comes Lil’ Wayne. Although he is currently in a very ugly situation with Cash Money/father figure Birdman, all it’s doing is building huge buzz around Tha Carter V. Fans are too anxious at this point to see what the big deal is about, and why he won’t release Weezy’s last album. Being that it is Wayne’s final release, I can picture tons of fans racing to the stores to grab a copy when it does finally drop.

With all of these huge names dropping projects this year, I’m confident that there’s bound to be at least one that will see that cool million by the end of the year. I’m even confident that there may be one or two that see it within the first week of their album sales. We’ll have to see how things play out.
