Today (Jan. 19), we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Through community service, music and film, celebrities are banding together in remembrance of Dr. King.

Yesterday (Jan. 18), stars of Ava DuVernay’s Selma were joined by hundreds of other people to retrace the steps of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Marching across Selma’s historic Edmund Pettus bridge, Oprah Winfrey, Common, David Oyelowo, John Legend and DuVernay proudly honored the community activist.

“We thank you for loving us, and we love you back,” Winfrey said. “We thank you for being a symbol of what hope and progress, what grace and goodness, can be and do. I’m so excited that once again I get to march across the bridge, not as portraying Annie Lee Cooper, but standing in the shoes and on the shoulders of everyone that came before us.”

Selma has been nominated for Best Picture at the upcoming 2015 Academy Awards. Watch the cast make their way across the bridge above.
