Civil Scope: Tatiana King-Jones
by Staff Editor

What do you think is the tie between hip-hop and nerd culture?
Tatiana King-Jones: It’s, intrinsically linked, to be very honest with you. Whether you want to talk about hip-hop today or go back in the day with classic hip-hop, it’s always been there. The best example we have is Young Guru, he was on our show. And he’s a huge, huge Star Trek person. He goes into great detail about the importance of Star Trek and what made him get into it and why its so dope. The fact that he can extrapolate all of that information from something that people define as nerdy is amazing. And this is one of the forerunners of hip-hop.
Would you consider that one of the most hip-hop Fan Bros moments?
Tatiana King-Jones: It’s always between Young Guru and Just Blaze. I love when Just Blaze is there because he just comes in and tells his hip-hop nerd stories and sometimes we’re just like, “We might as well just give him the mic and just listen because we’re not even going to disturb him.” Because he goes into just amazing detail about these two worlds and how they kind of mesh together. It’s insane.
You just interviewed the Editor-in-Chief of Marvel Comics (Axel Alonso), in the beginning of the year. How are you going to top that in 2015?
Tatiana King-Jones: That was huge. Even before it happened we were like “Yo… how are we going to top this?” But, honestly, we’re going to top it. My thing is like, don’t sleep on Fan Bros. Whether we have to stand outside of a door for hours just to holla at an editor, creator, singer, rapper or editor we will do it. We are a team that will put in the work, put in the planning, execute it and make it happen. I can’t give away what’s happening for 2015, but we have crazy stuff already on deck. Stuff that we already recorded; it’s nuts.
