Why The G-Unit Reunion Was Needed

G-Unit: 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo, Young Buck

The timing of this reunion couldn’t have been any better. The industry had been longing for the return of the “gangsta” appeal and 50 and the Unit did just that on the Summer Jam stage. Just ask Slowbucks.

And since the Summer Jam reunion, the Unit’s been on a tear. After a slew of freestyles and a couple original tracks, the Unit dropped their first EP The Beauty Of Independence, and it’s got everybody jumping back on the bandwagon that almost never came back around. We can already expect the follow-up, The Beast, to hit shelves soon.

Unlike many long-awaited group reunions, this project feels like the guys haven’t missed a single beat. Not only do they all individually match their classic flows from the glory years, they mix in some new school flavor. It’s funny to hear Buck use ‘Instagram’ in a punchline.

To top off the end of an epic G-Unit reunion-filled summer, the group sat down with Rob Markman where 50 revealed the reunion fit solely because “the timing was right.”

We’re not quite sure how he did it, but in 2014 50 Cent has made fans just as excited for G-Unit as they were in 2004. Some of us wished this would happen one day, but not many of us truly expected it. Now it’s time to enjoy another run from 50 and G G G G G G G-Unit.
