Why The G-Unit Reunion Was Needed

G-Unit: 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo, Young Buck

For the next 5 years, 50 and the Unit were virtually untouchable. But in 2008, everything started to change, and quickly.

Buck and 50 started to have internal problems, which eventually led to Buck being kicked out of the group after the Queens MC embarrassed him with a leaked phone call of Buck crying to him about his taxes. As for Banks and Yayo, it seemed like they were absent from the scene and slowly started to distance themselves from 50 and G-Unit. But most importantly, 50’s popularity plummeted for many reasons including the first week sales battle he lost against Kanye West in 2007. It was shocking to see one of hip-hop’s most prolific groups crumble to the ground.

But Curtis understands how the industry works and clearly knows what his fans want. So, after “dismantling” the group just a few months prior, 50 did the unthinkable by re-uniting the original 4 members (as well as newcomer Kidd Kidd) for the first time as G-Unit at this past Summer Jam Festival. It was incredible to say the least.
