Do you feel like when you’re singing and rapping you have two different personalities, like a Beyoncé/Sasha Fierce alter ego setup?

Luke Christopher: I do. You have to come from a different place even in the studio if I’m singing some shit I have my hat on a certain way and when I’m about to rap I’ll like take off my shirt and move my hat to something different. It’s a different mode.

How do you decide when you’re crafting your records whether a verse or hook will be sung or rapped?

Luke Christopher: It’s really just when I get in the studio I decide ‘man I gotta rap here, I gotta sing here.’ It’s not like I’m like ‘I need a song that’s just rapping or just singing.’ It’s kind’ve like whatever comes out, comes out.

Tell me about your upcoming album, what can we expect?

Luke Christopher: It’s going to be all me.I think people will appreciate that. Just in terms of being myself, being a fan of music I want that feeling. I want to create an album of just being somebody in the studio. It’s going to be cool, it’s going to be singing, rapping, hip hop and soulful songs. It’ll be dope.

Any features you can tell us about that you’re excited for?

Luke Christopher: I want to keep it minimal and unique. I would like James Blake on it. I would like Andre 3000 on it. Maybe Mos Def.

Other than yourself, who have you been listening to?

Luke Christopher: I’m getting back to the old Outkast. I’m listening to James Blake. I like Chance the Rapper, he’s doing some cool stuff.

When people hear “Luke Christopher” what do you want them to think?

Luke Christopher: He cares about what he’s putting out. He’s not in it besides to just put good music out for the people. I want people to see me as someone who cares about how the culture shifts.
