Civil Interview: The ‘Sisterhood of Hip Hop’ Are MCs First, Reality Stars Second
by Staff Editor
Five very different young women agreed to put their lives, careers and everyday struggles on front-street for television audiences everywhere after receiving a call from T.I. or the Oxygen network. Coming from different spectrums of the game, some are returning after a brief hiatus while others are attempting to break through.
With some powerful names backing them and prepared to be their guiding light, Diamond, Siya, Nyemiah Supreme, Brianna Perry and Bia agreed to become the Sisterhood of Hip Hop. But don’t get it twisted, the idea of this being a “sisterhood” didn’t initially sit well with the girls.
“We are not no damn sisters! No, that shit is wack, this ain’t no fucking group,” Diamond said. “But now I love it, it grew on me.”
“Now we embody it, we are a sisterhood. It’s all about God, each other, respect for yes ourselves but a lot of respect for the grind as well,” Bia added.
Praying together and battling who got the best Shmoney dance, these five ladies have grown together and proved that despite popular belief there is more than enough room at the table for multiple lady lyricists to eat at. There may be drama. There may be disagreements but at the end of the day these women are MCs first and reality stars by consequence. The cameras aren’t a distraction from the recording sessions and performances these women are focused on.
Tune in every Tuesday at 9p.m. on Oxygen to watch these female MCs go 0 to 100 every episode.
