Rising-Star-Voting-KarenCivilSix of the 10 acts that performed last night advanced with the help of America and the three experts, who each have a vote worth seven percent. Brad, Kesha and Luda made it clear that losing on the show doesn’t have to be the end of anyone’s musical aspirations. But Ludacris may have stepped out early as the most harsh out of the group, even going as far as to tell one couple, “You know when people get drunk and go sing at a karaoke bar? That’s kind of what I felt just now.”

The show’s host Josh Groban did his best to explain the workings of the voting process to everyone at home. He also had the privilege of making some of the night’s biggest announcements of the night like the official app reaching 1 million downloads; a huge sign for the potential of the show.

ABC may have completely changed the trajectory of television by showing that their system of instant gratification works (because who actually wants to pick up a phone and call in their vote anymore?). Viewers can now feel like an even bigger part of their favorite competition shows by watching their vote push their favorite singer of the night over the edge.

Head to the next page to watch some of the best performances of the night, including one from Macy Kate, an audience member that sent in a 15-second Instagram video for a chance to audition and left with 93 percent of the votes.
