It’s Time To Retire The Yeezus Rant

The first couple of times that Yeezy took to the stage mid-set to share his thoughts with the world, he was dubbed a modern-day revolutionary that will one day have his own part of the history books. Crazy, but brilliant. West was just a genius preaching a message that flew over the heads of the simple-minded masses. Or it could all be a sign of immaturity, like a teenager complaining to some authority figure that won’t let them do whatever they want.

No matter how you feel about the Yeezus rant, it’s lost its punch. It’s not shocking anymore. Nah. It’s downright predictable and tiring.

It’s happened so much that someone’s made a 30-minute highlight film that takes the “best of” Kanye West quotes and plays them over the images of ancient art with overly dramatic music playing in the background. Kanye West’s rants have their own highlight film. Called “Kanye West’s New Testament.” Yeah. Let that sink in.

Ye started off “The Yeezus Tour” with his rants right from jump. The tour started back in October and we’re still hearing a lot of the same things now, in June. To add some perspective, Kanye’s been ranting about being “marginalized” for the length of an entire basketball season.

If anyone yells the same thing at people for too long they learn to naturally tune it out. Kanye’s getting dangerously close to that point.

I’m not taking a shot at Kanye West’s first amendment rights here. He can stand on his soapbox–or stage–and say pretty much whatever he wants, especially at a show where an already captive audience paid for tickets to see him. But if he really wants to educate the masses, it may be time for him to retire the exhausted rant. Or at least switch his style up.
