Jill Scott will return to her alma mater, Temple University, to receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters tomorrow (May 15). The Philadelphia native is one of three distinguished alumni who will be recognized for their outstanding achievements and community service.

“We are extremely proud to honor these three prominent leaders whose values and achievements embody the mission and ideals of the university,” Temple University President Neil D. Theobald said.

The singer-songwriter has not forgotten her roots as she crafted hits while giving back to the Delaware Valley community through her Blues Babe Foundation. Named after her grandmother, the foundation helps underserved students achieve their postsecondary education goals through financial assistance and mentorship.
