There were 3 California natives who I felt got snubbed this year – Dom Kennedy, Casey Veggies and Problem. I know it’s hard to please everybody, but these MCs have been hard at work for a while now. Since their buzz is really starting to take off, I think the Freshman honor was warranted for this power trio. Also, it was a bit shocking that Young Thug missed the cut given his recent buzz.

The biggest fail that XXL had this year, however, was not putting any female rappers or singers on the list. Snow Tha Product? Nitty Scott, MC? With all of the talented female artists out there, it’s discouraging that none of them made the cut. But as XXL’s boss lady Vanessa Satten tells us, the mag staff has no regrets about their final choices.
