According to the Hollywood Reporter, Ocean agreed to create a song for an upcoming Chipotle ad that advocates local and sustainably-sourced foods, while offering a warning of the dangers of industrial farming. Reportedly, the “Bad Religion” crooner saw a version of the commercial that was 80% finished and was paid half of his fee, $212, 500. But the singer somehow caught cold feet after learning the final version would have a Chipotle logo.

Ocean’s lawyers claim that the original agreement included no Chipotle reference hence their client’s decision to pull away from the campaign.

“When Frank was asked to participate in this project, Chipotle’s representatives told him that the thrust of the campaign was to promote responsible farming. There was no Chipotle reference or logo in the initial presentation, and Chipotle told Frank that was an intentional element of the campaign,” the letter said. “Frank was also promised that he’d have the right to approve the master and all advertising.”

Now, the chain has enlisted Fiona Apple for the rest of the campaign and are suing the singer for the fee paid as well as additional damages.
