Macklemore To Kendrick Lamar, “You got robbed. I wanted you to win.”

After winning 4 Grammys last night, and sweeping the Rap category, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis had what most would consider an amazing night that was years in the making. However, it was also bitter sweet for the Seattle artists due to the circumstances.
Macklemore released a screenshot of a text exchange between himself and Kendrick Lamar, who went on to not win a single award, early last night to show that they were wishing each other luck and giving mutual support; perhaps as a way of damage control and to calm fans down.
After the awards he released a screenshot of the text message with a thoughtful caption, which you can see below.
“You got robbed. I wanted you to win. You should have. It’s weird and sucks that I robbed you,” wrote Macklemore. “I was gonna say that during the speech. Then the music started playing during my speech and I froze. Anyway, you know what it is. Congrats on this year and your music. Appreciate you as an artist and as a friend. Much love.”
The caption with the post reads as follows:
“My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album… I’m honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys. But in that category, he should have won IMO. And that’s taking nothing away from The Heist. Just giving GKMC it’s proper respect.. With that being said, thank you to the fans. You’re the reason we were on that stage tonight. And to play Same Love on that platform was a career highlight. The greatest honor of all. That’s what this is about. Progress and art. Thank you. #grammys”
It’s unfortunate that Macklemore & Ryan Lewis can’t even enjoy one of the highlights of their career as much as they arguably deserve to because of how things played out.
