In the middle of a show in New York last night, Trinidad James decided to speak his mind. In the middle of his set, James said his piece about how he once looked up to music from New York but now “every nigga that’s really popping out of New York, he might as well tell you he’s from Atlanta.”

“I remember when New York rap was the shit,” said James. “And us in the south, us bamas, we was like ‘What the fuck?’ and we just did our own thing. But now we run y’all, musically. That’s crazy.”

James went on to speak about how more New York artists are interviewing than making records while you can hear a member of the audience shout out, “Yo, he wylin’, yo!” James then transitioned into the next song.

Update: Trinidad James took to twitter this morning to further explain his position.

He ain’t lying though. We do and we did. I’m still salty about ya’ll NY niggaz booing Outkast at the 1995 Source Awards though. But, Andre 3000 told ya’ll that same night, “The South got something to say.” You see the aftermath. Hell I’m quite sure the only reason Jay Z is my favorite rapper still to this day is because NY used to run shxt back(even in SE GA) in the Golden Era when niggas was actually rapping & people cared. #NYwillNEVERrunHIPhopAGAIN I’m just being honest!(Future voice)
