It’s Jhene Aiko’s time to shine. The Sailing Souls singer is gearing up to drop her debut album Souled Out next week, and she recently sat down with both Angie Martinez of Power 105.1, and Ebro In The Morning at HOT 97 to promote it.

While speaking with Angie, not only did Jhene give us the scoop on how the album sounds with Angie, which she addressed as “it’s me,” she also talked about working with Drake, her refusing to work with her sister Mila J, and the rumors on her dating Childish Gambino.

She said of her sister Mila:

“We don’t work together. It’s weird, but it’s not because we’re sisters. I feel like the style of music that I’m doing and where I want to go doesn’t meet up with the style that she’s doing and where she is now. … It gets really messy if you’re working with family because that can mess up your personal relationships. When we [Mila J and I] see each other it’s all about family. It’s not about ‘when’s you’re video dropping?’ We don’t even know half the time what we’re doing when it comes to that and I think that keeps the personal good.”

  1. I just love Jhene’s positive spirit. I don’t think it’s possible for me not to like any of her projects — Souled Out sounds great and I’m definitely going to cop. Doesn’t hurt that she’s just the cutest thing! Beautiful inside and out.
