Bet Hip-Hop Awards 2014

This past Saturday the 2014 edition of the BET Hip-Hop Awards happened in Atlanta. While it will be a little time in between the taping and it’s airing on television, there are reports of some of the great moments to emerge from the award show’s taping.

During the show’s filming Doug E. Fresh was awarded with the “I Am Hip-Hop” Icon award. Thankful for the honor, Fresh honored his mother who recently passed and performed “La Di Da Di” along side of show host Snoop Dogg.

The show featured performances of some of the hottest tracks currently in hip-hop. The south had a heavy presence on stage with T.I. and Young Thug linking or “About the Money,” Rae Sremmurd taking off with “No Flex Zone,” and Migos adding in “Fight Night.” In addition to those performers Brandy along with female hip-hop legends Yo-Yo, QueenLatifah and MC Lyte performed their classic hit “I Wanna Be Down,” which has hit its 20-year anniversary.

Common, Jay Electronica and Vince Staples performed their “Kingdom (Remix),” which featured a gospel choir and the parents of Mike Brown who participated in a moment of silence with their hands raised in the air.

Other performers included DJ Mustard, Ty Dolla $ign, YG, Lil Boosie, Bobby Shmurda, Rich Homie Quan and of course the legendary cyphers. Winners of the night include Future who took home the Best Club Banger award for “Move That Dope,” and DJ Mustard who won Producer of the Year.
