Ab-Soul’s These Days… is set to take over the world June 24th and in the mean time he is steadily releasing music off the forthcoming project.  All Def Digital tapped into the TDE rep to talk his upbringing in Carson, California and how he got his start in music.

“I was first introduced to music due to my family business which was a record store, so those are my earliest memories of music,” Soul explains. “I was really rapping in middle school. took time of course like with all things. i wrote great essays in school so it was easy to translate.”

Linking up with Top Dawg Entertainment through Sounwave, a cousin to his best friend – a chance relocation to Carson led to the ultimate meeting of both parties. The Black Hippy movement was created to bring together all audiences. “The Black Hippy was designed to systematically bring all of our audiences together in one building, in one room. Which I think worked pretty well,” he said.

With These Days… just a few days away, Ab-Soul reveals his thoughts on what dropping his album on the same day as ScHoolboy Q would have been like.

“If me and [ScHoolboy] Q dropped on the same day I would take the number 2 spot. I’d let Q take be number 1 if I had that choice. I feel like when you have that family type of mindset it is highly powerful.”
