Bill K. Kapri, well-known as Rapper Kodak Black, was accused of assaulting a prison guard in the Federal Detention Center in Miami last month. While awaiting sentencing for lying on a federal application for the purchase of three guns, a fight broke out between the rapper and another inmate, where Kodak ended up injuring the guard that was trying to break up the confrontation.

Under the influence at the time of the attack, Kodak’s representatives believe that his coffee that he is seen drinking 20 minutes before the fight had been enriched with a chemical which caused him to lash out. Accused of grabbing the guard’s testicles so hard that the man had to be hospitalized for a breached abdomen and intestinal wall which required surgery, Kodak faces another pending charge along with almost four-years in prison after pleading guilty for his gun charges.

Now, Kodak is asking a judge to allow him to serve part of his four-year prison sentence at a facility that offers treatment for drug addicts that are inmates. The Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP) offers a unit specifically for inmates undergoing treatment for their addictions. RDAP offers a nine-month program and a completion of a 500-hour course.

If Kodak completes his program successfully, he’s looking at extra priviledges during his sentence as well as possibly being released a year early. Assistant United States Attorney Bruce Brown pointed out that the rapper would benefit from the RDAP program during his sentencing. Now, it’s in the judge’s hands to decide if Kodak will finally receive the help that he needs.
