After revealing that Lil Nas X’s hot record “Old Town Road” had become a certified diamond-selling single, RIAA quickly took to Twitter to correct their mistake as Lil Nas X’s song is actually 3x multi-platinum.  After RIAA made the initial announcement on Wednesday that the record had reached diamond status, Lil Nas X followed up by tweeting, “OLD TOWN ROAD JUST WENT DIAMOND!!!! WTFFFFFF.” To correct the information that they posted to social media, RIAA tweeted, “The song is currently 3X multi-Platinum.” The tweet also encouraged people to, “Please reach out to [RIAA] with any questions going forward. Thanks!”

Unfortunately, the initial tweet by RIAA stirred up confusion online as many celebrated “Old Town Road” breaking a new record. RIAA has been known to be a reliable source for accurate statistics on how artists are performing on the charts. Although the information was false, Lil Nas X’s hot track is still 3x multi-platinum and he currently has two other songs on Billboard’s Rock Charts as well. Plus, “Old Town Road” still has a great chance of hitting diamond status as the rising superstar continues to push his movement in the industry.
