Is Solange Reviving BlackPlanet To Release Her New Album?
by Karen
Solange has been rather mute about her new developments, but after an ID Magazine cover leaked a bit earlier than expected, Solange shows her new digital hand.
The site, BlackPlanet was popularized in the early 2000s (originating in 1999) as a social and digital home for Black people and eventual alternative to MySpace. Since the rise of numerous other widespread platforms, BlackPlanet lost it’s steam and became somewhat of a disjointed dating app (see: BlackPeopleMeet).

But not to be outdone, Solange officially took to Twitter to announce her space on Black Planet that resembles her digital book for A Seat At The Table, her 2016 opus to self love and Blackness. Even BlackPlanet is adding to speculation of a new project. Upon one Twitter user writing that they didn’t have an account, their official Twitter account responded to the user with the following: “It’s not too late to change that! We have some incredible updates coming soon. You definitely don’t want to miss it!”
Here are small blurbs, presumably lyrics that are found on her official page.
I made the pilgrimage back to the pagoda of third ward houston to answer this.
When your body is all you have you best take care.
When your body is all you have you best take care. For the bad weaves and two ways.
I swallowed the light….
Threw my earnings like offerings and prayed it went to something that made her feel good.
How much of ourselves do we leave at home and how much do we carry with us forever?
But I did not sit in the sun.
How much of ourselves do we leave at home and how much do we carry with us forever?
In a late interview in 2018, Solange confirmed her next project was complete and was scheduled to be released before the year’s end and when that didn’t come to fruition, she was spotted by TMZ filming something of a documentary in Houston that garnered a lot of buzz. Now that the artist has seemingly introduced her new digital space for art, we may be getting a project after all.
Could Solange be summoning the similar southern gothic vibes for this next project? She and her sister Beyoncé have used the Black Cowboy imagery in prevoius works. Could her use of BlackPlanet be a call back to Public Enemy’s A Fear of a Black Planet? We’ll have to wait and see.
