In August, Nicki Minaj released her fourth studio album, Queen.  Several weeks before the release of the album, Minaj contemplated on postponing the album to get clearance for the song titled, Sorry Ft. Nas. Although Minaj released the album without the song, the leaked track was debuted by FunkFlex and now, the rapper has been hit with a lawsuit.

Sorry uses the vocals and melody of Tracy Chapman’s 1988 hit, Baby Can I Hold You. According to TMZ, Minaj and her team reached out to Chapman multiple times for permission to license the song, but all requests were rejected.

According to Rolling Stone, in response to Minaj’s rejected request, her manager, Gee Roberson, allegedly reached out to connect the two artists.

Chapman’s Lawyer Lee Phillips tells Rolling Stone that “Tracy Chapman very much protect her rights and she has a right to deny a license when requested.”
