It’s high time for Iggy Azalea’s resurgence in mainstream hip-hop. Her Super Bowl advertisement with Monster sparked a revitalized fascination with the Australian-rapper and her recently released collaboration with Quavo. In a new interview with iHeartRadio, Iggy touches on her new single “Savior” and what fans can expect to see from her on her upcoming album Surviving The Summer.

The Super Bowl commercial for Monster Products featured Iggy’s “Savior” as its centerpiece; Iggy herself appeared in the advertisement along with Joey Fatone, Poo Bear, Joe Perry, and Yo Gotti. The jumpy, yet sullen track is a change of pace from her club-ready releases. She spoke about the song’s creation, elaborating on exactly what it meant to her.

“It’s more personal than I think my fans would be used to hearing from me,” she explained. “This is still something you can have fun to, but I wrote it in a real heavy period in my life, where I had a lot of changes that happened overnight. I had had a big breakup. My career wasn’t going well. I found my time in a space where everything I was used to…had abruptly stopped. I didn’t know how to get my life back together.”

But, as albums are usually sequenced, “Savior” should be just one aspect of Iggy’s livelihood. We can expect her to showcase more of herself in an effort to better identify with a genre that has largely abandoned her. In the interview, she also touched on what Surviving The Summer.

“You can expect more honesty from me and my records,” she explained. “I still have fun ups and downs and stuff, but the whole point of the record, as a whole, is the turbulence you go through in summer, when you’ve just experienced a big breakup. It’s a lot of highs and a lot of burnouts. My record is that juxtaposition. ‘Savior’ sets the scene This is day one. This is where I was at. Then moving along from there, this is what happened to me and what I went through.
