Martin Luther King’s impact on the world will be felt for as long as the pages of history continue to turn. His work in racial relations shaped an area rife with hatred and animosity, pushing for change that continues to impact and manifest as the world turns. His death sent shockwaves through the African American community and the world at large that only increased the importance of everything he fought and stood for. In short, besides the marital infidelities and other minor shortcomings projected into the public by organizations who wished to devalue his hard work, Martin Luther King was an icon, leader, and extremely important architect of equality in modern society. The Paramount Network plans to honor his life, legacy, and extraordinary ideas for progressive treatment of needing cultures in an the upcoming documentary, I Am MLK Jr.

The documentary will focus on a number of vantage points that detail his impact on the Civil Rights Movement as well as the world surrounding him. The film, produced by Derik Murray, credited with involvement in I Am Heath Ledger and Johnny Cash: American Rebel, will feature insight from prominent public figures like Nick Cannon, Carmelo Anthony, and Van Jones.

I Am MLK Jr. is only the first step in a bold new direction for The Paramount Network, formerly known as Spike. With plans to diverge from the male-centric programming slant of old, it looks like paying respects to one of the country’s most important historical figures is only the beginning of something beautiful.

Check out the preview for I Am MLK Jr. below and prepare to watch it on The Paramount Network on April 8 at 8 PM EST.
