Isaiah Rashad’s debut studio album, The Sun’s Tirade is set to drop soon, and with that comes promotion. The TDE member stopped by Power 105’s The Breakfast Club to talk about his project, finding his identity within the hip-hop group’s esteemed roster, working with artists from his hometown of Chatanooga, TN and more.

It’s been close to two years since the release of his mixtape Civilia Demo and Isaiah explained how getting caught up in the rapper lifestyle was the reason for the wait. “Going on tour with a major, going on tour with [ScHoolboy] Q, coming off, getting adjusted, feeling stuff differently … too much experience too early,” he said.

Trying to find your own voice and identity within a label like TDE, home of hitters like Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q, is a huge challenge but Isaiah is taking it in stride. “I kind of feel I found my identity more now that the project is done.”

One of the biggest criticisms he has faced is sounding too similar to label mate Kendrick Lamar. “People think I look like Kendrick, just short, little deep voice dudes,” he explained. “That’s tight, that doesn’t really bother me.”

Isaiah also gave his opinion on if knowing classic hip-hop is important or not, working with artists from Chatanooga, hating how black people portray themselves in the media and more.
