The latest biopic to hit theaters will be about Nina Simone starring Zoe Saldana.

Nina is the story of the jazz singer who played a huge part in the civil rights movement. After Mary J. Blige dropped out of playing the key role, it was passed on to Zoe to take her place. The Liz Garbus directed film will focus on her later life while exiled in France and her relationship with manager Clifton Henderson.

Although the film hasn’t officially seen the light of day yet, there is already controversy. The fact that Zoe’s complexion is “too light” compared to the legendary singer’s has been a hot topic. However, Nina’s daughter appreciated the script, so it’s safe to assume Zoe has her blessings.
