Baltimore’s own King Los dropped a successful album about a month ago (June 23), but the freestyle king says it was truly a mixtape that turned into an album after the positive reception. Nonetheless, the success of God, Money, War has set Los up for a promising remainder of 2015.

The album in question, came at a very important time where the country’s political and racial issues were skyrocketing. The tragedy of Freddie Gray had taken place a month or so prior to that, which effected Los in particular since it happened in his own city — a city he’s rode for forever.

Speaking on world issues has never been a problem for the emcee, but he made sure to spend this album really focusing on that. “I’ve always talked on things outside of myself, so it wasn’t a reach for me to talk about what’s going on in the world and be a little more reflective,” says the wordsmith.

We caught up with King Los to discuss a slew of things including God, Money, War, the positive aspects of Baltimore and which upcoming artists we should be looking for, his upcoming tours (one with MGK, one of his own), why he was able to master the art of freestyling, the misconception of being famous and much more.
