L.A. Reid didn’t hold back in his Midem interview when he described his unhappiness as a judge on The X Factor USA.

At first the CEO of Epic Records was more than excited to join the cast on the popular music show because he wanted a break from the label world. He admitted that he had a “great time” at first, but things went south when the second season rolled around.

L.A. didn’t hesitate to say, “It was the worst thing I’ve ever done.” His focus switched to making sure he regained his hands on position with his record label and the show was a distraction. Unfortunately, “the man with the magic ear” felt the show was negatively impacting his musical taste.

According to L.A., there is a great different between television musical talent and the “traditional journey of music” he has grown in after his 30 plus years in the industry. Although he still has much respect for Simon Cowell, the show’s creator, he realized they just have different musical opinions.

Even though The X Factor was a bad experience for L.A., it’s racked up an audience of 20 million, according the Simon, so they must be doing something right. – Breanna Davis
