The Game’s Changing: My First 24 Hours With TIDAL

Tidal - Jay Z

Last month, Jay Z announced a potentially game-changing streaming service for artists of the music industry deemed TIDAL. After the announcement was made, each of the prominent owners (artists), including Jay, Beyoncé, Madonna, Rihanna, Kanye West and several others, signed a declaration, which Hov says is a promise to change the pay system for artists as we know it. From there, TIDAL was officially born.

Let’s discuss what TIDAL is all about and why it could change the game.

First and foremost, TIDAL is a brand new streaming service similar to Spotify, Pandora, Beats Music, etc. The one main goal for the brand that differs from its competitors is their focus to put more money back in to the artist’s pockets through royalties. For example, you may have seen headlines in the past like, “Aloe Blacc Only Got Paid $4,800 For His 168 Million Streams On Pandora.” Just to put it in perspective for you…168,000,000 divided by $4,800 is $0.000028. That’s significantly less then 1 cent per stream. If you can’t see an issue with that, something’s wrong.

So, Jay found a way for artists to make more money. Is that all that TIDAL’s good for? What about the customers?

Absolutely not. Another major facet of the groundbreaking new streaming service is the amount of exclusive content that they will be releasing solely on TIDAL for us to enjoy. In just the last week and a half since TIDAL’s launch, we’ve already gotten three exclusives: a song by Rihanna, a video by Beyoncé and another video by Madonna. Those are three of the biggest artists of our generation and those exclusives are all thanks to TIDAL. Can you imagine the day when Hov releases a surprise album through his new service and goes platinum before it drops? (cc: 2013 Samsung/Magna Carta Holy Grail initiative). Expect exclusive interviews with these artists as well via TIDAL.

Time’s are changing, ladies and gentlemen.

  1. ” To be clear, TIDAL HIFI is a loss-less sound quality, similar to what you would get from using Beats, SMS, Bose, etc., but without needing the expensive headphones to go with it.”

That’s the most ridiculous line i’ve ever read and i’ve read a lot of bullshit.

And now J.cole is going to give a free concert in NYC to people who stream his album the most on Tidal during the weekend. Through all the side eyes and head scratching on social media I kept in mind that Jay Z is not stupid when it comes to business and his money. I knew he had a plan so I ignored the question marks floating through my head and had faith that J doesn’t need instant understanding in order to turn sh*t to platinum. I am not a huge fan of his but I can admit the man knows his way around business deals. I personally love the ten dollar service. My twins and I listen and buy a lot of music so it was a good deal for us.
