What some thought was a cruel April Fool’s joke by Kendrick Lamar has turned into a joyous reality. Kendrick took over Times Square in NYC earlier today to premiere the official music video for his standout track “King Kunta” off of his number 1 album To Pimp A Butterfly. Only shooting the video just last week at the Swap Meet in Compton, Kendrick has managed to completely direct our attention to the Compton native.

For the 2nd consecutive week, Kendrick’s album To Pimp A Butterfly has found itself in the number 1 spot on Billboard, proving that he successfully avoided the sophomore slump. Looking to evoke emotion out of each and every track, Kendrick explains that this album was all about using his role as a celebrity to inspire the youth and to make a real difference. We even found out that the album was originally going to be called Tu Pimp A Caterpillar, in order to pay homage to the late great Tupac Shakur.

We were able to snag some footage of Kendrick’s video premiere for “King Kunta” in Times Square, which we’ve added for you guys on the following page.
