Only - Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj’s now-controversial “Only” lyric video has garnered unsavory attention from the Anti Defamation League as being offensive for containing Nazi imagery.

“Nicki Minaj’s new video disturbingly evokes Third Reich propaganda and constitutes a new low for pop culture’s exploitation of Nazi symbolism,” Abraham H. Foxman, director of Anti Defamation League and a Holocaust survivor, said. “The irony should be lost on no one that this video debuted on the 76th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the “night of broken glass” pogrom of the Final Solution and the Holocaust.”

Though Nicki has publicly apologized for any offense, she stood firm in stating that the direction of the video was not meant to inflict any harm. In fact, the inspiration of the video derived from “a cartoon on Cartoon Network called “Metalocalypse” on Sin City.”

Despite her apology, videographer and visual artist Jeff Osbourne has released a contradictory statement to Spencer Stein. Prefacing his explanation by acknowledging that his views are not shared by Nicki, Drake, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown or Young Money he said: “First, I’m not apologizing for my work, nor will I dodge the immediate question. The flags, armbands, and gas mask (and perhaps my use of symmetry?) are all representative of Nazism.”
