Rico Love isn’t afraid to spark a little bit of controversy, if that’s what it takes to get your attention. The Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter has the ability to pen lines to songs that we can bump to in the club, car and even to spark some romance. But now, the New Orleans native is using his platform as an artist to spark what he sees as a much-needed conversation.

“I have a real issue with the women who aren’t mothers, who have kids and don’t put them first,” he says. “I believe those women are bitches.”

The “They Don’t Know” crooner is pointing his finger at women who he believes lack a sense of priorities in his new single, “Bitches Be Like,” citing examples of women who spend more time partying and jet setting to land a baller than raising their children. “If we allow our women not to know their worth and their value then we’re losing as a total,” he said. “I’m just saying when those priorities aren’t taken care of, those are women who do that are bitches.”

We spoke to Rico to hear his take on using the B-word and what we could expect from his upcoming debut album. –Niki McGloster
