When Trinidad James made the public statement that the South “runs New York, musically,” Maino was one of the most vocal in his opposition on the statement and expressed his distaste in a phone call between himself and the Atlanta rapper when he demanded an apology on behalf of New York. Further extending his criticism of the hip-hop industry, Maino teams up with Jadakiss for “What Happened.”

In the Mazi. O-directed video, “years of subpar hip-hop has infected the brains of the masses. A zombie like plague has the city under siege.” Maino drops lines about the state of hip-hop along with Jadakiss who goes on to say, “You can get yourself a deal, you can get yourself a date. Get a beat from Mike-Will, get a hook and verse from Drake. Probably both be on my album so don’t try to call it hate, I just call it how it is cuz I’m the opposite of fake.”
