Jay Z’s lyrics feature mentions of the upper echelon that sometimes seem daunting; he’s even shown an appreciation for classic art (“Picasso Baby”). To further show his appreciation for the visual arts, Jay Z’s purchased an original painting of the late Jean-Michel Basquiat for $4.5 million, according to the New York Post.

The purchase was supposed to be made by an anonymous bidder but word got out that Hov was the one to claim the 1982 piece from his fellow Brooklyn native. Jay actually came out on top because the painting has an estimated value of $4 to $6 million. If you paid close attention, you may notice that Jay has been a fan of Basquiat’s work for quite a while. –Keith Reid-Cleveland
