Plies-Purple-Heart-Karen-CivilAmidst his active tweets about the apex of a woman’s thighs and all that can be done to it, Plies finds time to push scheduled performances and singles to his core fans. As one of the last few self-proclaimed street rappers standing, the rapper is ready to deliver the streets what he believes will be his first real, classic album. “[Purple Heart] is that classic album,” Plies says of his forthcoming LP. “A classic album for me is when it’s timeless music, when it’s music that is that deep, that real. Ten or fifteen years from now, it’ll still be floating around in the streets due to its impact.”

Keeping in tune with the streets while working on his forthcoming LP, the Florida rapper served mixtapes to music fiends as he refocused his hunger for the music he was putting out. “That same hunger I had in my early mixtape days, I feel that same passion back in my music. From an artist standpoint, this game requires you to do way more than you use to have to do, and we felt like the mixtapes was the key to keeping that connection between me and my core – the streets deserve it.”

And his fans deserves metals hence the name of this upcoming project. While a purple heart is a distinguished honor given to those who serve our country, the “Faithful” spitter is adding his own twist on the honor to include those attending college despite the financial struggle, single parents fighting to provide for their kids and those who are hustling day to day to survive.

“I feel like those people deserve purple hearts as well,” he said.

While we await an official tracklist, Plies reveals that his album will boast both mainstream and “unproven” talent. “When I say unproven, I just mean unproven to the mainstream,” he explains. “I got a crazy record with Problem out in the West Coast and I feel like that’s a record I’m excited about. I still like the hunger.”

Plies may be tossing around dates as to when Purple Heart will drop but he’s in the middle of implementing a tour set to start some time in November. – Alley Olivier
