Nothing has been the same since Kendrick Lamar’s verse on “Control” surfaced. After the hip-hop playing field leveled a bit, a snippet from the 2013 BET Awards TDE cypher hit online with K. Dot taking aim at Drake, or as some people are hypothesizing, New York’s own Papoose.

“I agree with the people, I looked at the majority and they were saying he was going at me,” Papoose said in an interview with XXL. “So I agree with the listeners, I agree with the fans.” Papoose’s reaction to the verse was simple, “Oh, it was comical, man. I laughed.”

He later added: “Yeah yeah, he can’t fuck with me. He’ll never be able to shine my shoes, lyrically. So I’m just gonna be able to continue to prove that, to show and prove, like I did on “Control.” This is hip-hop, I love hip-hop, but I just want to continue to show and prove that he can’t fuck with me lyrically.”

Waiting is not an option for Pap, who plans to have a verse ready for Kendrick without listening to the entire cypher. “I don’t gotta wait, he’s very predictable. I already know what he’s capable of and what he’s gonna say; he’s very predictable.”

Hip-hop’s competitive spirit has been ablaze in recent freestlyes and responses to “Control” and when it comes to his own, Pap feels as though he out rapped them all – including Kendrick.

“Yeah yeah, he can’t fuck with me. He’ll never be able to shine my shoes, lyrically,” he said. “You know what, it’s hip-hop and it’s all about competition, but don’t get into a competition with someone you can’t fuck with lyrically.”
