It’s a big day for pretty girl Keri Hilson as she makes her second acting debut in the David Twohy film Riddick starring Vin Diesel. The film is the third installment to the series that began with Pitch Black (2000) and followed up with The Chronicles of Riddick (2004).

Riddick picks up Diesel’s living on what appears to be an unknown scorched planet, battling its native aliens among other things until he finds an abandoned outpost. Richard Riddick, Vin Diesel’s character, then activates the emergency beacon which draws a team of bounty hunters to the mysterious planet. Hilson plays K.L. Sunhell, a prisoner to Santana played by Jordi Molla, whom is one of the crooked bounty hunters of the group. Though a much smaller role, Hilson expressed how she had to reach deep down to pull out the sadness in her scene.

“I had to channel ways that I’ve felt imprisoned,” she says. “I had to go to really dark places and there were tears.”

theGRIO.com had a chance to catch up with Keri while in Virginia Beach recording her new album,  to talk about her meeting with Vin Diesel and how she plans to still keep music at the forefront.

“I am very much focused on finishing my album…I want to do it in a big way. I’m challenging Timbaland. I’m challenging everyone that comes to work with me because I’m giving my best.”

For the official Riddick trailer, hit the jump. Don’t forget to check it out in theaters today.
