Wale Officially Signs With Maybach Music

The verdict is still out on which label Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group will officially become affiliated with. However, one detail that is now set in stone is Wale. This weekend, the news was confirmed – of course, via Twitter – that the DMV rapper has become the newest member of the label ending weeks of speculation. Wale has been featured on several tracks with Ross as of late including his appearance on Rozay’s latest mixtape Ashes To Ashes on the song “Play Your Part” and also on the lyrical free-for-all “Pandemonium” which methodically features Meek Mill (who is also rumored to be signing with MMG).
Originally, Wale was signed to Mark Ronson’s Allido Records through an Atlantic Records distribution venture. After a disappointing number of sales on his debut album Attention Deficit, it was clear to see Wale’s frustration with the situation. Earlier this morning, he released a telling tweet which could in essence describe the reasoning for his latest career change.
Now I can do songs like shades, ambitious girl and nt fear a “man in a chair” saying “this aint what black people wanna hear”
Maybe the move was made for creativity purposes. Only time and future releases will be able to properly answer such questions. That being said, the move initially set off a debate due to the fact many assumed Folarin had cut ties with Roc Nation. According to Wale, the case is, in fact, the exact opposite. Even with signing to Ross’ imprint, his managerial duties will still be handled by Jay-Z’s label.
