Yaya DeCosta to be Whitney Houston in Film

Fans of Whitney Houston will be able to view a biopic on the legendary singer’s life, which will be directed by Angela Basset for Lifetime. In the upcoming release Yaya DaCosta will portray Houston.

TV Line reports, the film will provide details on Whitney Houston’s life and historic career while highlighting her tumultuous relationship with R&B artist Bobby Brown. The relationship between the two was a hot topic of fans and media from its inception until Houston’s untimely 2012 death.

Speaking on the development of the film, Bassett stated, “I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story.”

DaCosta first made her way on TV screens as a contestant on America’s Next Top Model before landing roles on TV shows, All My Children, Ugly Betty and House.  DaCosta has also made a jump to the silver screen with a role in last year’s Lee Daniels’ The Butler.

The film will be released on Lifetime in the year 2015.
