Drake could be getting sued over "Pound Cake"

According to TMZ, the opening monologue for Drake’s “Pound Cake/Paris Morton Music 2” may have from a late jazz musician by the name of Jimmy Smith’s “Jimmy Smith Rap” from 1982. The problem comes when it appears that Drake and Cash Money Records didn’t ask permission from the Smith’s estate so they’re now being sued for $300,000.

We’ll see how this ends up because in the liner notes to Drake’s Nothing Was the Same, the opening monologue for the Jay Z assisted track is credited with “Speech sample provided by Christian Rich and Utters.”

As details arise we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
