It’s finally happening! According to Deadline, production company Emmett/Furla/Oasis along with Morgan Creek Productions have agreed to to co-finance and co-produce the long-awaited and highly anticipated film, Tupac, a biopic based on the life and times of the late hip-hop legend Tupac Amaru Shakur.

The news comes a little shy of a week after a near two-decade anniversary of the rap icon’s death, as writers Jeremy Haft and Eddie Gonzalez will do a new draft of the script to accompany $45 million dollar budget that has been approved for the film. Producers have been given full rights to use all of Pac’s musical catalog as they attempt to recreate his journey from rapping and acting to becoming arguably one of the most influential hip-hop figures of all time.

Shakur’s motherĀ Afeni Shakur will join James G. Robinson, David Robinson, LT Hutton, Randall Emmett and George Furla as a producer for the upcoming film. Tupac is set to go into production in Atlanta sometime next February.
