Recognize and realize the Trayvon Martin tragedy has the potential to define this generation. Following the case since it happened in late February, witnessing the call to action that has electrified the entire country (all races) has been nothing short of inspirational. It doesn’t matter “when” you found out about it. That’s irrelevant. What matters, however, is that you take this opportunity to realize the issues at hand. It’s bigger than black or white although race is the predominant factor involved. It’s moreso about right and wrong.

A grown man essentially stalked a teenager walking through his neighborhood for “looking suspicious.” And took it upon himself to get out of his car and confront that same teen against the orders of 9-1-1. The man, George Zimmerman, carried a handgun while the teen, Martin, had nothing but Skittles, iced tea and his hoodie. And regardless of what Geraldo Rivera may believe about hoodies, this piece of clothing DID NOT cause his death more than the bullet from Zimmerman’s gun. Clothes don’t kill people. People with notions about clothes kill people.

Insecurities are a bitch. And once mixed with stereotypes the results are largely gruesome to witness. Keep pushing forward with this case. It’s bigger than you, me or even Trayvon Martin himself. We’ve got a chance to leave a mark on this generation by doing what’s right.
