As hip hop increasingly becomes recognized as a major part of culture, colleges are taking considerable interest in crafting courses featuring our very own tastemakers. Some courses provide an overview of hip hop legends and their contributions while others focus on one particular rapper like Kanye West. Now, New York University’s Clive Davis Institute will introduce a course dedicated to New York’s own Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs.
The course description reads, “No single personality dominated the landscape of urban mainstream popular culture in 1990s (and since) more than producer, rapper and entrepreneur Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs.” The class will dive in to how Puff was central in catapulting cultural changes from 1990’s to the present.
Jayson Jackson, who is no stranger to Bad Boy Entertainment, will handle instructor duties for the new course. –Alley Olivier
