The beginning of the year always signals awards show season. The 42nd NAACP Image Awards will be air March 4 on FOX, yet the long list of nominees were announced yesterday. Sanaa Lathan had the honor of announcing them. Leading the way was Tyler Perry with a robust 19 nominations for his movies and TV series alike.

However, continuing her good year, Nicki Minaj was nominated for “Best New Artist.” She may face some stiff competition, however, since pre-teen sensation Willow Smith is also in the same category (Bruno Mars, Jason Derulo and B.o.B. are as well). Jay-Z, Kanye West and Usher look to take hom “Best Male Artist” while Sade, Mary J. Blige, Corrinae Bailey Rae and others look be awarded “Best Female Artist.”
